Sam Hundley Printmaking
08.14.24 The Chesapeake Bay Print Collective was launched in 2021 by my friends, Bart Morris, Luis Vilches and myself out of a desire to collaborate with local artists, produce something of lasting value, and most importantly, have fun! We have produced three portfolios of 11x14" prints, shown below. All of the portfolios are in private hands – each artist receives two while the CBPC keeps 1 or 2 portfolios for its archive. If you're interested in acquiring a portfolio, please contact me at sam@samhundley.com or (757) 681-3655. If you'd like to purchase a separate print, I will help connect you with the artist.
For this years portfolio, I decided to make cyanotypes, a method first discovered in the 1840s. I cut a paper doll with scissors and dried some flowers, then placed them on watercolor paper treated with light sensitive emulsion, under heavy glass, and set it in the sun for 5 minutes. When I rinsed the paper in the sink and it revealed a lovely negative print in a Prussian blue that got darker and richer as the paper dried.
"UNBOUND: The Chesapeake Bay Print Collective Portfolios" Feb. 3-24 at the Charles H. Taylor Visual Arts Center in Hampton - hope to see you there at the reception on the 10th from 5 to 8 pm.
